World-class Football facilities at Thanda

The players delight in Thanda’s world-class football facilities

In the pipeline now is the possible use of Thanda’s field for practice sessions by world teams, not to mention the idea of a training centre in the form of a cutting-edge soccer academy. All this, thanks to the Thanda Foundation and Star Schools, an interactive, curriculum-based HIV/AIDS prevention project involving some 40 schools in the area.

Sven-Göran Eriksson with Dan Oloffson, Chairman and Owner of Thanda Royal Zulu

Dan Oloffson, Chairman and Owner of Thanda Royal Zulu, had a superb idea: to build a football field at Thanda, supported by the Thanda Foundation and the Star School initiative. He had visions of sunny days spent in friendly play; of slaps on backs and warm wishes; of wins and losses and challenge and lessons.

A team’s great pride

And then the Swedish football team, Malmo, visited Thanda – and things got even better. After hearing the rave reviews of Malmo FC, international football legend, Sven-Göran Eriksson, came to Thanda. He was exposed to the pride and joy of the Thanda football team: its pitch. He was also exposed to the beauty, strength and power that make up Zulu life. And Sven-Göran Eriksson got excited.
